Formalin is considered an irritant and toxic substance. Exposure to it may cause allergies, induce eczema, and lead to respiratory asthma.
Furthermore, over the past decade, the scientific community has discovered that inhalation of formalin (which is highly volatile) may increase cancer risk (Figure 1).

Efficacy: Studies have shown that glyoxal fixation provides comparable or superior results in immunostaining and molecular analyses compared to formalin, including better preservation of antigenicity and structural integrity of tissues.

Validation: Clinical trials conducted at institutions such as the San Giovanni Battista Hospital in Turin have validated GAF's performance against traditional formalin fixation methods, confirming its reliability for diagnostic purposes.
