Plant Growth Regulators - Gibberellins (GA) inhibitors - Chlormequat chloride (CCC)
Gibberellins (GAs) are plant hormones that regulate various developmental processes, including stem elongation, germination, dormancy, flowering, flower development, and leaf and fruit senescence. GAs are one of the longest-known classes of plant hormone. Three classes of GA-biosynthesis inhibitors that affect different steps in the pathway are known.
Chlormequat (Chlorocholine) chloride is a synthetic plant growth regulator that inhibits gibberellin (GA) biosynthesis, resulting in shortening and strengthening of stems in plants and reduced branching and foliage in certain species of shrubs and trees. It is used to study the mechanisms and effects of gibberellins on plant cell growth and differentiation.
Coincidentally the product increases the chlorophyll formation and the development of the root system, resulting in greater crop yield.
The main application is in the cereal cultivation where Chlormequat treatment reduces stem length, thickens and strengthens the plants to prevent lay-down.
