IgG (Fc) is a homodimer composed of the constant region of the two heavy chains that form the IgG molecule. The Fc fragment mediates opsonization, antibody dependent cellular cytotoxicity, and complement activation through binding to Fc receptors. Specificity for the Fc fragment of human IgG is determined by ELISA and immunoelectrophoresis (IEP). The antibody preparation is specific for human IgG (Fc) fragment when tested against purified human IgA, IgG (Fc and Fab fragments), IgM, Bence Jones Kappa, and Bence Jones Lambda myeloma proteins. No reactivity is observed with the Fab fragment of human IgG, light chains, IgA, or IgM. Anti-IgG (Fc) serum plays a very important role in estimation of elevated levels of IgG antigen in diseased states such as autoimmune chronic active hepatitis, premature babies, post operative infection management and Multiple myeloma.
This is used as blocking reagents or negative controls in various invitro diagnostic (IVD) test kits, ELISA kits. It may be used in detection of IgG levels of rheumatoid arthritis patients.
